Katherine Ellsworth-Krebs and Heather Lynch are on a mission to support sustainability professionals trying to make a difference without burning out.
Being a sustainability professional can be hard.
You’re the one that people apologise to for not recycling or missing targets.
You’re the one that has to ‘sell’ sustainability to a business.
You’re an influencer because we need ‘everyone’ in the organisation to be making changes, yet you have few (if any) staff directly reporting to you so you also have to cheerlead those who can make sustainability initiatives a reality.
You’re the one trying to change the fabric of how an organisation thinks and behaves, with very little support, resources or budget for your work.
And on top of all, not only do you have to deal with your own eco-anxiety, you also become the undercover eco-anxiety therapist for others as your efforts force others to confront the scale of environmental and social crises we’re facing and manage the understandable emotions that arises from this awareness.
Often you are doing all this on your own or with a small team.
It can be a lonely role, but you aren’t alone: there are many sustainability professionals out there going through the same process of trying to make a difference without burning out.
So let’s learn together and support each other to thrive!
